It pays to become business savvy, But new skills are just one factor to consider when evaluating IT compensation packages. As corporate dependence on IT grows, IT professionals find themselves increasingly drawn into business decisions, rather than simply implementing and maintaining technologies. Now it appears that companies are backing up their desire for business-savvy IT professionals with cash. This chapter, based on the 1999 InfoWorld Compensation Survey, reveals that the average salaries for IT professionals who focus on both business and technology are higher than the average salaries for those at the same level who focus primarily on technology.
